THE HISTORY AND DEVELOPMENT OF SMALL ARMS AMMUNITION, VOLUME 4 Volume four illustrates and describes over 400 specimens of American made black powder centerfire rifle cartridges and over 50 rifles that chambered them, several of them one-of-a-kind. The cartridges are organized by their originators - Maynard, Sharps, Ballard, Stevens, Marlin, and Colt. Appendix A contains Civil War and European primitives not available for Volume One, over 60 of them a unique collection of Prussian, Italian, French and other needlefires from 1842 to 1870.
Appendix B contains 19th century patents for centerfire cartridge designs. Fifty five Sharps, Ballard, Winchester, Remington and E. Remington box labels are shown actual size in full color. 235 pages, 8.5" x 11", case bound with a four color dust jacket.
